AITSL
Teaching Australia became the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) on 1 January 2010. The skills assessments function for nominated occupations pre-primary, primary and secondary school teachers is now being provided by AITSL.
Skills Assessment
AITSL is the designated skills assessment authority for the following occupations under the General Skilled Migration Program:
AITSL's skills assessment is one part of the General Skilled Migration process.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship's (DIAC) Australian Skills Recognition Information (ASRI) website provides information on migrating as a teacher to Australia.
A new AITSL skills assessment Application Guide and Form, reflecting the revised assessment criteria for English language proficiency and supervised teaching practice and the change of name of this assessing authority, is available.
The change of name of the assessing authority, from Teaching Australia, to Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) is in progress. It is expected all assessment certificates issued from 1 May 2010 will be on AITSL letterhead. All Assessment Certificates issued under the name of Teaching Australia will be valid for two years from their date of issue. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will recognise all valid certificates for the purposes of General Skilled Migration.
All applicants applying for a skills assessment after 22 March 2010 must use the new Application Form. All applications post marked 22 March 2010 or later will be assessed against the revised assessment criteria.
